Sylvia Millecam (born February 23, 1956 in The Hague , Zuid-Holland , † August 20, 2001 in Nijmegen , Gelderland ) was a Dutch actress , singer and television presenter .

She became known for her appearance on the programs Ook dat nog! and Knoop in je zakdoek . She has been voted the most popular television personality twice in the Netherlands.

illness

On September 22, 1999, Millecam went to her family doctor because she felt a small lump in her right breast. The GP ordered a mammogram , but the result was not entirely clear. So the family doctor made an appointment with a surgeon for Millecam. Millecam did not show up for that appointment.

On May 11, 2000, Millecam visited a plastic surgeon. After a puncture , the diagnosis of breast cancer is made. The tumor had grown significantly. A mastectomy and chemotherapy had become necessary, but Millecam refused conventional medical treatment.

She firmly believed that it was just a bacterial inflammation and sought her cure in alternative healing methods. Among other things, she was accompanied by the self-proclaimed medium Jomanda . It probably played a role in the fact that a few years earlier her father had received unsuccessful chemotherapy and she did not want to experience it herself. Between December 2000 and April / May 2001 Millecam visited an acupuncture practice .

For a while, Millecam stayed at home with an alternative healer who only treated her with paracetamol . When death could no longer be averted, he could no longer feed her in his house.

On August 17, 2001, she was admitted to the Nijmegen University Hospital . A very advanced and metastatic mastitis carcinomatosa is diagnosed. The tumor reached outwardly to the shoulder. Internally, the entire right half of the thorax was taken up by the tumor mass. There was metastasis in the armpit. Millecam was given oxygen and blood. Because she suffered from severe anxiety, she was given morphine on August 19, 2001 . Millecam passed away on the night of August 20-21, 2001.

After death

On August 25, 2001, Millecam was buried in the Westgaarde cemetery in Amsterdam with great sympathy .

After her death, among other things, Jomanda's methods came up because this medium always said that Millecam did not have cancer. Other healers had also denied the regular diagnosis, even though it had been obtained through medical examinations of the tumor.

The Dutch Health Inspectorate conducted an investigation. It turned out that between September 1999 and August 2001 almost 30 individual practices and institutions had dealt with Sylvia Millecam. However, she chose alternative healing methods that did not cure her and confirmed her belief that she could not have cancer, even until the moment the tumor had grown a lot and Millecam had lost more than 20 kilograms.

The Medical Breeding Commission also initiated proceedings against three doctors who had treated Millecam. All three regular doctors were doing alternative medicine at the same time. On February 7, 2006, the Health Inspectorate filed for the three doctors to be revoked. One had misdiagnosed that it was just an inflammation. The others are also accused of serious medical errors. On April 7, 2006, all three doctors were sentenced. One was banned from working for life, the other two were banned from working for 12 or 6 months.
