Jonás Manuel Gutiérrez (born July 5, 1983 in Presidente Roque Sáenz Peña ) is an Argentine football player .
Player career
In the club
Jonás Gutiérrez comes from the youth of Vélez Sársfield , for whose first team he played from 2001 to 2005. There he also achieved his greatest success to date - winning the Clausura 2005, the Argentine championship. In 2005 he went to RCD Mallorca , where he immediately developed into a regular player.
In February 2007 he was allowed to play for the Argentine national team for the first time (in a friendly against France). Since the 2007/08 season there have been regular offers for Jonás Gutiérrez from the Premier League .
In summer 2008 he accepted one of these offers from England and is now playing for Newcastle United in the English Premier League.
In the winter break of the 2013/14 season, he moved to league rival Norwich City on loan for six months .
Personal
In September 2014 Gutiérrez announced that he had testicular cancer . The disease was discovered in the summer of 2013 and Gutiérrez had an operation in October 2013. After loaning to Norwich City in the summer of 2014, he underwent chemotherapy until November 2014. He then played his first competitive game for Newcastle's youth team against Bolton. On the last day of the 2014/15 season of the Barclays Premier League he saved Newcastle United from relegation with his goal to lead them 1-0.
