Johannes Cornelius "Jon" Bluming (born February 6, 1933 in Amsterdam ; † December 17, 2018 ) was a Dutch master of traditional Japanese martial arts ( Budo ) and a high degree in Bojutsu , Iaijutsu , Jōdō , Judo , Karate and Kendo .

Life

As a student of judo pioneer Dr. Ger FM Schutte studied in 1950 at the Korean Yudo College (KYC) in Seoul under the direction of Choi In-Do . After the end of the Korean War , in which Bluming actively participated as a member of the UN armed forces , he continued his judo studies on the recommendation of the renowned Budo historian Donn F. Draeger in the Japanese capital Tokyo . In 1958 he was accepted into the famous Kenshusei , a special class for the 25 best members of the Judo Institute Kōdōkan (Jūdō) , which at that time was under the direction of Kyuzo Mifune . In 1960 he took 3rd place in the national Olympic judo eliminations (after the later Olympic medal winners Akio Kaminaga and Isao Inokuma ) and then began intensive Budo studies: Nihon-Den Kobudo under Ichitaro Kuroda and Takaji Shimizu as well as karate in the style of Kyokushinkai under Masutatsu Oyama , of which he became a master student .

The Dutchman played a key role in establishing the International Karate Organization (IKO) in 1964 and was the first foreigner to teach karate in the country of origin. Bluming, later one of the highest ranking judoka and pioneer of Kyokushinkai in Europe (1961), was the first non-Japanese karateka to receive the 6th dan in 1965 and the 10th dan in 1994. The former Dutch and Belgian national karate trainer founded the Nederlandse Karate Associatie (NKA) in 1962 , the European Karate Organization (EKO) in 1968 and the International Budo Kaikan (IBK) after leaving the IKO in 1996 .

He has worked in numerous film productions, published two books in 1967 ( Kyokushinkai Karate 1/2. Co-author Kenji Kurosaki ) and in 1999 his biography (The History of Jon Bluming) .
