The Jon M. Huntsman Center is a multi-purpose hall on the campus of the University of Utah in the US city of Salt Lake City in the state of Utah .

history

The dome was opened on November 30, 1969 after around two years of construction and offers space for 15,000 visitors. This makes it the largest sports arena in the Pacific-12 Conference . The attendance record reached on March 6, 2015 at a gymnastics competition is 16,029 spectators. After several modernizations of various sub-areas, including the installation of a new floor covering as well as a new display board and video wall , an extensive renovation took place in 2014 . The arena is named after the industrialist Jon Huntsman senior , father of the former governor of Utah Jon Huntsman junior .

Since opening, the Jon M. Huntsman Center has been the home of the Utah Utes teams , the University of Utah Sports Department, basketball (men and women), gymnastics (women) and, since 2013, volleyball (women). It also hosted the Final Four in 1979 , the West Region Finals in 1971 and 1981, and the 1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2006 preliminary round games of NCAA Division I basketball Championship of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
