Jon Metzger

Jon Frederick Metzger (born July 30, 1959 in Washington, DC ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone ) and composer.

Metzger received his Bachelor's degree in 1981 and his Master of Music in 1994 from the Corolina School of the Arts. As part of the Arts America program of the US Information Agency , he toured the Middle East, Africa and Central America, and has released a number of albums under his own name such as While We're Young, The Spinner and My Lady ; Fred Hersch (piano), Marc Johnson (bass) and Joey Baron (drums) contributed to his album Out of the Dark . In 1985 he received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts ; He was also honored for his compositions by the American Society of Composers and the Publishers Popular Award . In the field of jazz he was involved in 18 recording sessions from 1985 to 2012, including a. with Ronnie Wells , Ron Elliston , the John Brown Jazz Orchestra (with Cyrus Chestnut , Brad Leali , Vincent Gardner and Herlin Riley ) and the NC Jazz Repertory Orchestra ( Benny Goodman Swing Collection ). Metzger has taught at Berklee College of Music , the University of North Texas , University of North Florida, and CAL Arts. He wrote the book The Art and Language of Jazz Vibes . He is Professor of Music at Elon University .
