Jonas Avyžius

Jonas Avyžius (born May 16, 1922 in Medginai , Joniškis Rajongemeinde , † July 7, 1999 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian politician and writer .

Life

From 1936 he studied at the Joniškis grammar school . After 6 classes he worked with parents in the village and learned in the private “Kalbaneum” institute. From 1940 to 1941 he was a correspondent in Šiauliai , in 1941 in Kaunas of the newspaper " Valstiečių laikraštis ". From 1944 he took part in the Second World War in Latvia . In 1945 he was demobilized. 1945–1946 he worked at Radijo komitetas (LRT) as an editor, then in the youth magazine “Jaunimo gretos”, 1946–1947 in the daily newspaper “Tiesa”. From 1948 he was a writer.

From 1962 he was a member of the CPSU . From 1996 to 1999 he was a member of the Seimas . In 1996 he chaired the first Seimas meeting as the retirement chairman.

In 1997 he was awarded the Gediminas Order (Karininko kryžius).
