Jonas Richter (born July 2, 1997 in Chemnitz ) is a German basketball player. The 2.05-meter-tall winger is part of the BV Chemnitz 99 squad .

Player career

Richter comes from the youth department of BV Chemnitz 99 and attended the local sports high school. In the 2014/15 season he was the best scorer of the Chemnitz team in the U19 Bundesliga NBBL with an average of 15.6 points per game . Shortly after his 17th birthday, he received a two-year contract with the Saxons and was used for the first time in the men's team in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA during the 2014/15 season . He received further match practice in Chemnitz, second team in the 2nd regional league.

In the 2016/17 season, Richter developed into a top performer in the second division. “Jonas has a great career ahead of him. In one or two years, viewers will have to pay more than 10 euros to watch him play, ”said head coach Rodrigo Pastore in mid-November 2016 to the Chemnitzer Morgenpost after his protégé contributed 15 points to a home win against Nuremberg. In January 2017, his contract in Chemnitz was extended to 2018. He reached the ProA semi-finals with the 99ers in spring 2017 and narrowly missed the finals and thus promotion to the Bundesliga. During the season he made 33 appearances and scored an average of 6.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. At the end of the season Richter was named the best young player in the ProA. In the 2018/19 season Richter made it back to the semi-finals with Chemnitz: There he and his team had to admit defeat to Hamburg Towers in the fifth and decisive game 72:78 , which meant that the promotion failed again. In the 2019/20 season he was at the top of the table with Chemnitz when the season was canceled in mid-March 2020 due to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus . Richter, who was third-best scorer in the Saxons with 12 points per use, and his team were awarded the right to promotion to the Bundesliga as first in the ProA.

National team

In May 2017 Richter was appointed to the squad of the German U20 national team and a year later to the squad of the A2 national team. With the A2 he finished fifth at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples .
