Jonathan Tiernan-Locke (born December 26, 1984 in Plymouth ) is a former British cyclist who was banned for doping after his most successful season in 2012 .

Career

Jonathan Tiernan-Locke started his career in 2009 with Team Plowman Craven-Madison , after having previously won several national races. From 2010 Tiernan-Locke drove for the British Continental Team Rapha Condor-Sharp . In his first year there, he achieved his first success in a race on the international calendar by winning the 5th stage of the FBD Insurance Rás . In 2011 he won the 4th stage of the Vuelta a León . In 2012 he switched to the Endura Racing team , where he made his final breakthrough with overall victories at the Tour Méditerranéen , the Tour du Haut-Var , the Tour Alsace and the Tour of Britain . There were also five stage wins. After these results he was signed by Team Sky for the 2013 season , but could not build on his previous performances.

After the World Cycling Federation UCI demanded an explanation for suspicious values in his biological passport from Tiernan-Locke in September 2013 , his team stopped using it. In December, the UCI instructed the British federation to open disciplinary proceedings against Tiernan-Locke for doping , since the evaluation of the biological passport revealed a doping violation. Tiernan-Locke denied every rule violation. In July 2014, he was banned for two years until December 31, 2015. His victory in the Tour of Britain in 2012 and his 19th place in the UCI Road World Championships in 2012 were revoked because, according to the UCI, the abnormalities in the biological profile were clearly identifiable in these two races. Team Sky then terminated its contract with immediate effect.

Jonathan Tiernan-Locke's suspension was confirmed by the British doping agency UKAD in August 2014 ; According to the UKAD, his explanation for “wildly abnormal” blood values are “not sufficient.” Tiernan-Locke has not appealed to the decision, so that he is finally banned until December 31, 2015. After his hearing at UKAD, he publicly referred to this body as the “mickey mouse court”, a statement which the President of the UCI and former President of British Cycling , Brian Cookson , criticized as “foolish” (Eng. = Silly, stupid). Tiernan-Locke is "digging deeper and deeper into a hole".

In February 2017 Tiernan-Locke announced his retirement from cycling after he failed to find a new team .
