The two major rivers, the Missouri River and the Mississippi River, converge in Edward "Ted" and Pat Jones-Confluence Point State Park . The 454 hectare state park is located 15 km north of St. Louis in St. Charles County of the US state Missouri .

As early as 1721, the researcher Pierre François Xavier de Charlevoix enthusiastically mentioned the union of the two rivers. On May 14, 1804, the pioneers and explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began their expedition up the Missouri in search of a passage to the Pacific coast .

Since then, the river beds have varied their course again and again and the specific point of the confluence is to be found 2 km further downstream than centuries before. In terms of landscape, alluvial forests, alluvial land , floodplain areas and prairies can be found in the area . Great blue herons and bald eagles , pelicans, geese, gulls and many species of songbirds inhabit the park. Numerous migratory birds can be seen in spring and autumn. The Mississippi Corridor is used by 60% of all North American migratory birds, including 40% of water birds.

The state park, which has existed since 2001, was named after Edward “Ted” and Pat Jones, who made millions in donations for the expansion of the Katy Trail State Park . Both parks are networked with others in the Confluence Greenway .

On May 20, 2009, the park was closed due to flooding as it was during the Mississippi flood in 2011 .
