Joni Lius (born March 4, 1971 in Keuruu ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who, during his active time from 1989 to 2006, played for JYP Jyväskylä and TPS Turku in the SM-liiga and Västra Frölunda HC in the Elitserien .

Career

Joni Lius began his career as a hockey player at JYP Jyväskylä , for whose professional team he was active from 1989 to 1996 in the SM-liiga , the top Finnish league. The center then spent two years with Västra Frölunda HC in the Swedish Elitserien , before returning to his Finnish homeland, where he received a contract with TPS Turku . With TPS he won the Finnish championship title three times in a row in the 1998/99 , 1999/2000 and 2000/01 seasons . At European level, he also took third place in the European Hockey League with Turku in 2000 .

In the 2001/02 season Lius was on the ice for the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Ice Hockey League . In a total of 39 games he scored 28 points scorer, five of them goals. Then the former international joined his ex-club TPS Turku, with whom he was runner- up in the 2003/04 season . Following the 2005/06 season , he ended his career at the age of 35.

International

For Finland , Lius took part in the U18 European Junior Championship in 1989 and the World Championship in 1998 . At the U18 European Championship in 1989 he and his team won bronze, and at the 1998 World Cup, the silver medal.
