Jordan Romero

Jordan Romero (born July 12, 1996 in Big Bear Lake , California ) is an American mountaineer .

Inspired by a mural by his school, which shows the seven highest mountains of the seven continents, Romero had set himself the goal of climbing the highest mountain on all seven continents . As the first of the Seven Summits , he climbed Kilimanjaro , Africa , shortly afterwards, Mount Kosciuszko , Australia at the age of ten .

A year later he stood on the peaks of Elbrus , Europe , Aconcagua , South America and Mount McKinley , North America . The background is the idea of calling on other children to pursue self-imposed, achievable goals and to grow beyond themselves: "I do this to inspire other children to go outside and set goals for life," he explained his intentions.

On May 22, 2010, he successfully climbed Mount Everest, making him the youngest person to have ever reached the highest point on earth. He followed the Tibetan north route to the summit with his father Paul and stepmother Karen Lundgren , as the Nepalese authorities do not give permits to young people under the age of 16. The previous record holder was Temba Tsheri from Nepal, who had reached the summit at the age of 16. Appa Sherpa , part of Romero's team, also celebrated a record with his 20th Everest ascent.

As the last open summit of the Seven Summits, the young American reached the 4,892 meter high summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica on December 24, 2011 . This makes him the youngest mountaineer to have climbed the highest peaks on all continents.
