Jordanita cognata is a butterfly fromthe ram family (Zygaenidae).

features

The moths reach a forewing length of 14.0 to 17.5 millimeters in the males and from 10.5 to 11.5 millimeters in the females. Head, thorax and abdomen shimmer golden. The head and thorax are slightly hairy. The antennae are very long and narrow, very heavily combed and sharply pointed. They consist of 38 to 41 segments. The upper side of the forewings shimmers yellow-green, newly hatched specimens have a faint bluish shimmer. The hind wings are light gray and slightly translucent . The undersides of the wings are light gray and not covered with shiny scales .

The aedeagus of the males is large, the distal part is only slightly wider than the proximal part . There is a characteristic constriction in the middle. The cornutus is G-shaped.

In females, the ostium is wide. The antrum is wide, bulged, heavily sclerotized laterally and has a narrow ring proximally. It is distally translucent and slightly conical. The ductus bursae is narrow and starts laterally near the ostium. Proximally, it is broader and heavily furrowed and distally curved and kinked. The corpus bursae is egg-shaped.

Similar species

Jordanita benderi is a little smaller and has a bluish shimmer. The similar species has darker, bluish green fore wing tops and is more densely scaled. The body is greener, the antennae are shorter and consist of about 36 segments. The aedeagus is much smaller, and its distal part is much wider than the proximal part. J. benderi is only found in Morocco , while J. cognata is found in Algeria and Tunisia.

Jordanita cognata occurs in northern Algeria and western Tunisia .

The moths fly from April to May. There is no information about the other way of life of the species.
