Jorge Aragão da Cruz (born March 1, 1949 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian pagoda musician, singer and composer.

Life

Jorge Aragão began his musical career in nightclubs and dance halls in the 1970s. He became known as a composer in 1977 when Elza Soares produced his composition Malandro for the group Jotabê. Aragão was a founding member of the Fundo de Quintal group , which initiated the pagoda style. After leaving Fundo de Quintal, Aragão began his solo career. In 1982 his debut album Jorge Aragão was released on the Ariola record label . Knowing the carnival in Rio de Janeiro , he commented on the carnival parades on TV Globo , Manchete and, in recent years, the CNT's Carnaval do Povão project. Jorge Aragão has released twelve albums so far, he has performed in various cities in Brazil and toured the USA .

Many samba and pagoda artists such as Beth Carvalho , Alcione , Zeca Pagodinho and Martinho da Vila play compositions by Jorge Aragão. His greatest successes include songs like Coisinha do Pai (together with Almir Guineto and Luiz Carlos); which in 1997 was given to the NASA robot Mars Pathfinder in the interpretation of Carvalho , Coisa de Pele , Vou Festejar , Alvará , Terceira Pessoa , Amigos ... Amantes , Do Fundo do Nosso Quintal and Enredo do Meu Samba . His title Eu e Você Semper was played in 2000 by the group Exaltasamba . Jorge Aragão has been active as an MPB artist for over 30 years and is counted among the 'veterans of the samba'. In 2002 Jorge Aragão recorded the album Jorge Aragão Ao vivo Convida with various pagoda musicians such as Zeca Pagodinho, Alcione, Elza Soares, Beth Carvalho, Emílio Santiago and Leci Brandão . Another CD was recorded live at Canecão, a venue in Rio's Botafogo neighborhood . In June 2011, Aragão celebrated his 30-year stage career with a concert in Curitiba .
