Jorge Dávalos (born July 3, 1957 in Tala , Jalisco ), also known by the nickname El Vikingo ( dt. The Viking ), is a former Mexican football player who mainly played in attacking midfield and during his entire professional career exclusively with the Leones Negros de la Universidad de Guadalajara was under contract, for which he played a total of 513 games and was team captain for twelve years . After his active career, Dávalos began working as a coach .

Life

player

His first appearance in the Mexican Primera División came El Vikingo Dávalos on August 13, 1977 Estadio Jalisco at 3: 2 win over their neighbors Chivas Guadalajara when he came on ten minutes before the end of the game. He scored his first first division goal on October 11, 1978 with a penalty for a 1-0 lead against CD Tampico , to which the Leones Negros were defeated 3: 4 in the end. Just a few weeks earlier, Dávalos had been relegated to the season opener on September 9, 1978 at the “unloved neighbor” Tecos de la UAG for the first time in his career. A fate that was to be repeated twenty times during his professional career.

His last championship game completed Dávalos on June 7, 1991 in the quarter-finals of the Liguillas in the 1: 3 defeat at the Aztec Stadium against Club America .

His greatest success with the Leones Negros was winning the Cup in 1991 with a 1-0 and 0-0 win in the finals against Club America.

National team

Between 1979 and 1991 Dávalos came to a total of seven missions for the Mexican national team . He made his debut on February 8, 1979 against the Soviet Union (1: 1), which was followed by a further appearance against Spain (1: 0) on June 10 of the same year. "The Viking" had to wait until March 20, 1990 against Uruguay (2-1) for his third international match. His last appearance was in the game for third place at the 1991 CONCACAF Gold Cup against Costa Rica (2-0).

What is interesting about his international match record is the fact that Mexico has not lost a single time out of the seven games in which he played (five of them over the full distance). Five games were won and two ended in a draw.

Trainer

After his active career, he switched to the coaching staff of the youth division of his former club Leones Negros and temporarily looked after the Mexican U-23 selection in 1995. He later switched to the coaching staff of Chivas Guadalajara and was briefly employed at Torneo Verano in 2001 as interim coach of the first team, after Jesús Bracamontes was fired immediately after a 2-1 home defeat to arch-rivals America .

Dávalos looked after the team in the three games at the Tigres de la UANL (0-0) on February 17, 2001, against the Pumas de la UNAM (also 0-0) on February 25, 2001 and in the 2: 3 defeat in Celaya on March 3, 2001, before being replaced by Oscar Ruggeri .
