Jorge Eduardo Acosta

Jorge Eduardo Acosta (born May 27, 1941 ), alias " el Tigre " ("The Tiger") is a former Argentine corvette captain and head of the Grupo de Tareas 3.3.2 of ESMA , the concentration camp and torture center during the time of the Argentine military dictatorship and of the dirty war . He is said to be one of the main people responsible for torture and the commissioning of state murders. He is said to have been personally responsible for the murder of the French nuns Léonie Duquet and Alice Domon and the opposition activists Azucena Villaflor , Esther Ballestrino and María Ponce. Likewise for the murder of the Swedish-Argentinian teenager Dagmar Hagelin . He is personally charged with 80 serious crimes.

Life

Jorge Acosta traveled to South Africa in 1981 to serve as a military advisor to the apartheid regime . He advised the South Africans on questions of asymmetrical warfare . In 1998 it was revealed that he had a secret Swiss bank account. There he transferred the money from members of the opposition who had been kidnapped and murdered during the Argentine military dictatorship (the so-called: Desaparecidos ).

After the end of the dictatorship he was pardoned by the Ley de Obediencia Debida . He was later arrested and charged again for having been involved in the kidnapping of numerous babies. In August 2006, he was also charged with crimes against humanity in connection with the ESMA torture center. Alfredo Astiz and Adolfo Miguel Donda were co-defendants .

In Italy, too, he was charged with crimes against Italian citizens. Finally, he was sentenced to life imprisonment in Argentina on October 26, 2011.

On July 5, 2012, he was sentenced to another 30 years in prison for kidnapping babies of opposition activists.
