Jorge Machiñena

Jorge Machiñena (born April 17, 1936 in Montevideo , † December 30, 2007 ) was a Uruguayan politician.

Machiñena was a member of the conservative Partido Nacional and belonged within this to the Lista 904 founded by his father Martín O. Machiñena . The great-grandson Martín Machiñenas and father Jorge Machiñena Fassis sat in the Chamber of Deputies for the first time in the 41st legislative period as deputy member for the Department of Montevideo (September 12 to November 30, 1972 and again from December 28, 1972 to February 1, 1973). In the legislative periods 42 to 44 that followed the civil-military dictatorship, he sat as an elected representative without interruption from February 15, 1985 to February 14, 2000 for Montevideo in the Cámara de Representantes . During this time in 1987 he held the position of First Vice-President at the side of Chairman Victor Cortazzo in the Cámara de Representantes . From March 1996 to February 1997 he was then President of the House of Representatives as successor to Guillermo Stirling . He also held a deputy senator mandate for a few weeks from October 10th to 30th in 1995.
