Jorge Rebelo

Jorge Rebelo (* 1940 in Lourenço Marques ) is a Mozambican poet and politician .

biography

After attending school, he studied law at the University of Coimbra in Portugal and worked as a lawyer after obtaining his license . In addition, he became a member of the Frente da Libertação de Moçambique (FRELIMO) and was information secretary of this liberation movement during the independence struggle against Portugal. As such, he was responsible in particular for the dissemination of FRELIMO's propaganda and editor of the Mozambican Revolution bulletin .

During this time he was also known as the poet of the Mozambican Revolution and with "Liberdade" wrote one of the most famous poems of Mozambique's struggle for freedom.

Rebelo is also a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee (ZK) of FRELIMO and was a member of the Provisional Government after the death of President Samora Machel in a plane crash from October 19 to November 6, 1986 .
