Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann

Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann (* 1973 in Lima ) is a Peruvian composer and music teacher.

Grossmann took violin and composition lessons in his hometown before moving to Brazil in 1989. Here he studied violin at the Faculdade Santa Marcelina in São Paulo. From 1998 he studied composition at Florida International University in Miami. In 2004 he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University . His composition teachers were Paulo Maron , Fredrick Kaufman , John Harbison and Lukas Foss .

His composition Siray was one of the finalists of the ALEAIII International Competition in 2005 . In 2007 he received the Aaron Copland Award , a Charles Ives grant from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and a grant from the Brazilian Vitae Associação de Apoio à Cultura . In 2004 he became a member of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and head of their music ensemble NEXTET , later he also became co-director of the Nevada Encounters of New Music . Since 2010 he has been teaching composition at Ithaca College .
