The Jornal Nacional ( German : National Journal [ʒox'naw nasjo'naw]; short form JN ) is a news program by the Brazilian media company Rede Globo . It has aired as the main news program since September 1, 1969, and is very popular in Brazil as the main television information source during prime time in the evenings every day except Sundays. The main news presenters are editor-in-chief William Bonner and Renata Vasconcellos . The studios are located in the southern zone of Rio de Janeiro , in the Jardim Botânico district .
Presentation style
The Jornal Nacional, which is embedded between two telenovelas, is presented in a relaxed style . Since the program was launched, the JN has always started after the “Novela das sete” (seven o'clock telenovela) and before the “Novela das nove” (nine o'clock telenovela), around 8:30 pm. There is no exact start to broadcast because the seven o'clock telenovela can have a different ending. Many Brazilians are very familiar with the opening theme and as familiar as the melody of the national anthem .
On April 27, 2015, the presentation of the JN changed. Since then, the speakers have not only sat at a modern table top, but also in a wider, freer space that enables mobility. The new division of the studio allows the moderators to move freely through the studio and present the news while standing, walking and from different angles.
About the moderators: mostly in pairs in the studio, they give their opinion on explosive or bizarre events several times during the broadcast. They often do not hide sadness. Unforgettable are, for example, the watery eyes and the choked voice of presenter William Bonner when Roberto Marinho , founder of the communications group Grupo Globo , which also includes TV Globo , which broadcasts the Jornal Nacional, died.
The news is largely considered trustworthy by the Brazilians.
On July 19, 2017, the news channel got a new broadcast studio . Among the innovations presented, the previously separate studio surrounds the newsroom in a circle. The cameras are now controlled remotely. The circular part is equipped with a curved, translucent glass pane 15 meters wide, on which the presenters can interact with the reporters in live entrances, as well as another screen on which the illustrations appear in the newsroom at a height and width of 3 × 16 m .
