José Anastasio Torrens
José Anastasio Torrens (* 1790 ; † 1857 ) was a Mexican ambassador .
Life
As ambassador to Washington, he was told that the US government was interested in buying Texas.
José Anastasio Torrens was ambassador to Simón Bolívar . In the opinion of José Anastasio Torrens, Simon Bolivar was a danger to republican institutions and his government would not deserve recognition from the Mexican government. In this assessment he agreed with the British James Henderson, the British Consul General in Bogotá and with the US envoy of 1929 William Henry Harrison . The three were suspected of colluding with General José María Córdova against Bolivar. The Colombian government demanded that the respective government be recalled immediately.
