José Antonio Muñoz for short José Muñoz or Muñoz (born October 7, 1942 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentinian comic artist . He became known for his black-and-white drawings, which he mainly uses in hard-boiled stories.

Career

Muñoz studied at the Escuela Panamericana de Arte with Hugo Pratt and Alberto Breccia .

The political and economic situation in Argentina drove José Muñoz to Europe. In Italy he published 56th District in 1973 . In 1974 he met the Argentinian author Carlos Sampayo in Spain . The successful collaboration between the two Argentinians began with the publication of the first episode of Alack Sinner in the Italian magazine alterlinus . This was followed by the spin-offs Sophie (1977) and Joe's Bar , which was created in 1981 for the French comic magazine A Suivre . Some of his work was published in the Italian comic magazine Sgt. Kirk at the suggestion of Hugo Pratt . In addition to other works, a comic biography of Billie Holiday was also created .

His black-and-white drawings are clear and straightforward, the renunciation of gray tones leads to hard contrasts, the facial expressions and gestures of the figures are often exaggerated and distorted.
