José Augusto Brandão (born January 1, 1910 in Taubaté , SP ; † July 20, 1989 ibid) was a Brazilian national football player . He played in the position of midfielder.

career

society

Brandão did not start his career at CA Juventus until he was twenty-one in 1931 . Here and at the following club, Portuguesa , the player stayed only a short time. In 1935 he moved to Corinthians São Paulo . In his eleven years at the club, he is said to have played 298 games and scored 11 goals. He is still one of the idols of the fans there today.

National team

He played his first official international match on December 27, 1936 at the Campeonato Sudamericano 1937 against Peru . His next tournament was the 1938 World Cup . Here he was used on June 14, 1938 in the replay against Czechoslovakia . In his second use in the game for third place, on June 19. against Sweden , he even ran as team captain and led the Brazilian selection to bronze medals .

This was followed by further appearances at the Copa Roca 1939/40 and the Campeonato Sudamericano 1942 . At the Sudamericano he was allowed to appear as team captain in all. He filled this role in all five games of the competition.
