José Barroso Chavez

José Barroso Chávez (born June 3, 1925 in Mexico City ; † February 5, 2008 ibid) was a Mexican businessman who worked as a high-ranking official of various social institutions as well as cultural and non-profit organizations in Mexico .

Among other things, he was President of the Mexican Association of the Order of Malta (Asociación Mexicana de la Soberana y Militar Orden de Malta) , from 1964 to 1970 President and later Honorary President of the Mexican Red Cross (Cruz Roja Mexicana) , member of the Mexican Advisory Board of the UN Children's Fund UNICEF as well as member and from 1961 to 1965 President of the Spanish Cultural Institute in Mexico (Instituto Cultural Hispano Mexicano) . From 1965 to 1977 he headed the League of Red Cross Societies, now the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as the first chairman from a Latin American country, succeeding the Canadian John Alexander MacAulay . In this office he was followed by Joseph Adetunji Adefarasin from Nigeria .

José Barroso Chávez was married from 1951 and has four children.
