José Colángelo

José Leonardo Colángelo (born October 22, 1940 ) is an Argentine tango pianist and composer.

Colángelo made his debut in 1955 with the orchestra of Alberto Dávila in a broadcast on Radio Argentina . He played in various youth groups (including under the direction of Luis Salvadeo ). In 1956 he became a member of the Las nuevas estrellas del tango orchestra and appeared in the same year as the accompanist of Eduardo Solano . In 1957 he made his debut with Ángel Genta's orchestra at Radio Splendid , where two years later he accompanied the singers Osvaldo Ribó and Carlos Almagro under the direction of Ángel Domínguez . In the same year he recorded an LP with the orchestra of Juan de Dios Filiberto and the singer Patrocinio Diaz .

In the early 1960s, Colángelo played in the formations of Ángel Domínguez , Lorenzo Barbero and Emilio Orlando and appeared on the radio with Enrique Alessio and José Berón . In 1962 Julio Sosa and Leopoldo Federico hired him as pianist for a joint project. After Sosa's death in 1964, he continued to work with Federico and the singers Roberto Ayala and Carlos Gari . He also performed with a quartet and as a piano accompanist for Ricardo Malerba on Radio El Mundo .

In 1968 Colángelo succeeded Osvaldo Berlingieri in Aníbal Troilo's orchestra, at the same time he became a member of the latter's quartet with Ubaldo De Lío and Rafael del Bagno . With the orchestra and quartet he performed in the early 1970s a. a. in New York and Washington and at the Teatro Colón and starred in the film Esta es mi Argentina .

As an accompanist in various line-ups, Colángelo appeared with singers such as Roberto Goyeneche , Alberto Marino , Mario Bustos , Roberto Florio , Héctor Maure , Raúl Berón , Néstor Fabián , Alba Solís , Elba Berón , Carmen Duval , Nelly Vázquez and Susana Rinaldi . In 1971 he recorded an LP with the bandoneonist Néstor Marconi , the bass player Omar Murtagh and the guitarist Aníbal Arias . In 1979 he founded his own orchestra with the bandoneonists Lisandro Adrover and Antonio Príncipe , the violinists Hugo Baralis , Alberto del Bagno and Mario Arce , the double bass player Héctor Console and the singers Guillermo Galvé and Ana Paula .
