José Luis Madrid

José Luis Madrid de la Viña (born April 11, 1933 in Madrid ) is a Spanish film director and screenwriter .

Life

Madrid studied law, but then enrolled at the Instituto de Investigaciones y Experiencias Cinematográficas ; however, he did not graduate here either. His first engagement in film was that of the screenwriter for the film Gayarre in 1959. In the 1960s and 1970s he wrote and directed over thirty films for numerous Spanish and Italian production companies, mostly in the most popular genres such as westerns and horror films ; for four he was also his own producer. He also owned a number of cinemas. For international productions he often worked unnamed, including several times for Artur Brauner . In 1984 the last film appeared with his participation.

In some of his films he is listed under English-sounding names, as is customary in European genre cinema in the heyday.
