José Mena Abrantes

José Manuel Feio Mena Abrantes (born January 11, 1945 in Malanje ) is an Angolan writer and dramaturge .

Mena Abrantes studied German in Lisbon , where he staged his first play in 1967. He left Portugal and lived in Frankfurt am Main from 1970 to 1974 , where he also worked as an assistant director at the Frankfurt Municipal Theaters in 1973 . At the end of 1974 he returned to Angola and founded the theater group Tchinganje there , with which he staged the first play in Angola after independence in 1975. In 1988 he founded the Elinga Teatro in Luanda , of which he has been director since then and with which he has participated in numerous international theater festivals.

José Mena Abrantes lives in Luanda and is also a press advisor to the Angolan President
