José Padilla (born December 4, 1955 in Barcelona ) is a Spanish DJ and producer of ambient music. He became known through his work as a DJ in the Café del Mar on Ibiza .

Career

Padilla was born in Barcelona and moved to Ibiza in 1975. Since the early 1980s he played in clubs like Pacha , Space and Ku and in 1991 became resident DJ at Café del Mar in Sant Antoni de Portmany on Ibiza. In 1994 he taught React his first compilation titled Café del Mar out. In the meantime, a series with 19 parts has emerged from this, since volume 5 (Cinco) (1998) for the newly founded music label Café del Mar Music . José Padilla was responsible for the selection of the first six parts as well as for the edition for the twentieth anniversary.

While Padilla's songs appeared on various compilations, it was not until 1998 that he brought out his first solo album Souvenir . It emerged from the collaboration with various chill-out musicians such as Lenny Ibizarre and Paco Fernandez. His second album Navigator 2001 received a nomination for the Latin Grammy in the category Best Instrumental .

José Padilla is no longer resident DJ at Café del Mar, but is touring around the world. In 2010 a new series of compilations, Bella Musica, was released . In the summer of 2011, José Padilla played music every Wednesday at sunset in the Hostal La Torre.
