José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera

José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera (born June 6, 1932 in Santiago de Cuba , Cuba ) is a Cuban politician .

biography

After attending school, he studied medicine and took part in strikes and manifestos against President Fulgencio Batista as a student . He completed his medical studies with a doctorate in medicine.

In May 1957 he was one of the companions of the revolutionary Frank País in the Sierra Maestra . However, he was briefly detained them and into the prison moved from Boniato. After his release in 1958 he was a member of the B Company "Pedro Soto Alba" and the 19th unit on the 2nd front "Frank País" in the rebel troops led by Fidel Castro and Raúl Castro .

After the end of the revolution on January 1, 1959, he initially remained in the Revolutionary Armed Forces ( Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias ) before he became an employee in the Ministry of Health (Ministerio de Salud Pública). In 1975 he was elected a member of the Central Committee (ZK) of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) . Between 1976 and 1985 he was first secretary of the PCC in the province of Santiago de Cuba and as such also became a member of the PCC secretariat and a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee, from which he resigned in April 2011.

Balaguer Cabrera was Minister for Public Health in the Council of Ministers from 2005 to 2010 and also a member of the Council of State . He is also a member of the National Assembly ( Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular ). He is head of the International Relations Department of the PCC Central Committee.
