José Revueltas Sánchez (born November 20, 1914 in Santiago Papasquiaro , Durango , † April 14, 1976 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican writer, screenwriter and political activist.

Life

José was the youngest son of the Revueltas Sánchez family . In order to find more time for self-taught training in the field of literary studies, he voluntarily ended his school career at a secondary school. His political media were writing, his scripts, political memberships and the public space were. In 1928 he joined the Partido Comunista Mexicano , from which he was terminated in 1943 because of his criticism of the bureaucratic approach and the publication of his "Ensayo de un proletariado sin cabeza". He was a co-founder of the Liga Espartaquista and the Partido Popular Socialista (PPS), from which he was later also dismissed because of his criticisms.

For his political activities he was imprisoned several times, for the first time at the age of 14 and 15 and still as a minor in the high-security detention center on the Tres Marias Islands . In 1958 he joined the railway movement and was arrested again. As an "intellectual writer" of the student movement of 1968, he was made responsible for the Tlatelolco massacre and served his sentence in the Palacio de Lecumberri in Mexico City.

At the age of 60, he was honored with the Mexican National Prize for his works. In 1976, the year he died, the prison in the Palacio de Lecumberri, the so-called "Black Palace", was closed after 104 years of existence.
