José Saenz d'Aguirre

José Saenz d'Aguirre OSB (born March 24, 1630 in Logroño , Spain , † August 19, 1699 in Rome ) was a Spanish Benedictine , theologian and professor of theology , abbot of the monastery of San Vicente in Salamanca and secretary of the Inquisition .

Life

In the consistory of September 2, 1686, Pope Innocent XI appointed him . the cardinal priest because he the superiority of the pope over the councils (against the Gallicanism ) in his work Defensio cathedrae Sancti Petri adversus declarationes cleri Gallici anni 1682 defended. On November 10, 1687, the Pope awarded him the cardinal's hat and the titular church of Santa Balbina .

He took part in the conclaves in 1689 (election of Pope Alexander VIII ) and 1691 (election of Pope Innocent XII ).
