José de Jesús Lora

José de Jesús Lora Reyes (born December 25, 1923 in Puerto Plata , † May 3, 2013 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican violinist .

Lora had her first violin lessons in his hometown with Alberto Zeller . He then studied with the Puerto Rican violinist José María Rodríguez Arresón , who provided him with a scholarship to study with the violin virtuoso Laredo in Colombia. He continued his training with Gabriel del Orbe and made his debut at the age of thirteen in Puerto Plata performing with the pianist Vicente Grisolía .

In 1943 he was one of the founding members of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional under the direction of Casal Chapí . In 1945 he became a violinist in the orchestra of the station La Voz del Yuna . For nineteen years he was principal violinist of the Super Orquesta San José , which was directed by Julio Gutiérrez , Avelino Muñoz , Luís Rivera and Papa Molina . He also played the first violin in the Orquesta Ravelo and the Orquesta de Tangos under the direction of Leo Cortez and Angel Bussi .

In 1960 he directed a radio string orchestra with which he accompanied the tenor Salvador Martí Otero . In the same year he performed with members of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Puerto Rico under the direction of Pablo Casals . From 1974 to 1979 Lora was concert master of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . The retirement due at this time was overridden by the director of the orchestra, Carlos Piantini , so that Lora was a member of the orchestra for 56 years.

He also taught violin and music theory at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música for ten years . He also worked as a guitar maker from an early age.
