Luís Armando Rivera
Luís Armando Rivera González (born June 22, 1901 in San Fernando de Monte Cristi , † September 16, 1986 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican composer , pianist and violinist .
Career
Rivera had first violin and piano lessons from his father, José Luis Rivera . He continued his training in Santiago de los Caballeros with Carlos Manuel García Vila and later as a member of the Orchestra of the Centro Lírico Ildefonso Arté with José Ovidio García .
He then played the violin in various zarzuela, opera and operetta orchestras, was a silent film musician and appeared in Cabo Haitano in 1922 with Juan Francisco García (trumpet), Julio Alberto Hernández (piano), Rafael Almanzar (mandolin) and Susano Polanco (vocals). He came to Havana in 1930 as a member of the Trio México Lindo . There he became a member of the Orquestra Filarmónica de La Habana under the direction of Pedro San Juan and attended Amadeo Roldán's classes for harmony and composition .
In 1932 Rivera released his first album of songs and released Dulce serenidad , one of his most famous songs. He conducted at the Teatro Nacional de La Habana and worked as an arranger, pianist and conductor for Ernesto Lecuona's orchestra. 1937–38 he lived in Mexico. Songs based on texts by Manuel Bernal were written here , including Jugando y llorando , which was sung by Juan Arvizu and recorded on record by Pedro Vargas . His musical revue Pa la Habana me voy was broadcast on the radio station XEW .
In 1939 he appeared in Puerto Rico as a pianist with the Estrellas de Lecuona . After returning to the Dominican Republic, his passport was revoked, which ended his international career. In 1942 he became director of the Banda de Música del Distrito de Santo Domingo and violin teacher at the LIceo Municipal . As artistic director of the station La Voz del Yuna , he conducted the Super Orquesta San José from 1945 , and in 1047 he became a professor at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música .
