Susano Polanco

Susano de la Cruz Polanco (born May 24, 1902 in Santiago de los Caballeros , † May 15, 1991 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican singer (tenor).

Polanco first appeared as a singer with Bienvenido Troncoso and Chencho Pereyra . Later, his friends Juan Francisco García and Julio Alberto Hernández supported him in training his singing technique. In 1921 he made his debut as a soloist at the Teatro Colón in Santiago, accompanied by the guitarist Baldemiro Morel . From 1922 he performed with a group of Dominican musicians in Cabo Haitiano.

1924-25 he gave concerts with the pianist Juan Francisco García in Puerto Rico. In 1926 he performed in Haiti and went on a concert tour through Cuba. In 1927 he sang a quartet from Verdi's Rigoletto with Eduardo Brito , Petra Comprés and Catalina Jáquez at the Teatro Ideal in Santiago de los Caballeros under the direction of Luís Rivera . The following year he was heard on the radio in Santo Domingo with the accompaniment of pianist Julio Alberto Hernández , and Victor Records produced a record of Salvador Sturlas Amor mío with him .

In the following years Polanco became one of the most popular singers in the Dominican Republic. In 1935 he ended his career as a singer with a concert at the Teatro Independencia and from then on devoted himself to teaching.
