Jos Romersa

Jos André Romersa (born November 1, 1915 in Dudelange , canton Esch an der Alzette ; † November 5, 2016 ibid) was an apparatus gymnast from Luxembourg .

At the age of seven Romersa joined the gymnastics department of the Jeune Garde Catholique in his hometown. In 1931 he moved to the gymnastics club Union Dudelange. From 1934 to 1957 he was a member of the Luxembourg national gymnastics team.

Jos Romersa took part in the gymnastics world championships in Budapest in 1934 and four years later in Prague . One of the highlights of his career was his participation in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin . The gymnastics competitions took place in front of 20,000 spectators on the Dietrich-Eckart open-air stage near the Olympic Stadium. In the individual all-around competition, he reached 84th place among 111 participants. In the individual competitions, his best discipline was horse jumping . As the second best starter in his country, he made it to rank 58th. In the team all-around competition, he achieved 12th place with his country (out of 14 participating nations).

Jos Romersa worked as a master electrician at the United Steelworks Burbach-Eich-Dudelange . In 2008 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg (Knight).

His son Marc Romersa (* 1956) was a well-known high jumper . He took part in the 1976 Olympic Games in this discipline .
