Josef Überall (born May 10, 1936 in Groß Kunzendorf , Czechoslovakia ; † April 4, 2008 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) was a German artist and object artist .

Life

Josef Überall studied in Schwäbisch Gmünd and Berlin. He was a trained steel engraver and product designer and lived and worked in Düsseldorf . At the end of the 1970s he returned to Schwäbisch Gmünd. Soon afterwards he moved to the forest clearing in Bürlenshalde southeast of Alfdorf , where he set up his open-air studio, which could only be reached from the outside world by hanging down on a steel cable.

Since Josef Überall consistently created his expressive objects from everyday objects, natural materials and waste products, he was counted among the Arte Povera artists. He was known nationwide as an object artist.
