Josef Baumann (agricultural scientist)

Josef Baumann (born January 23, 1877 in Fleischwangen ; † January 18, 1963 ) was a German agricultural scientist .

Career

Josef Baumann attended the higher fruit and horticultural school in Reutlingen in 1911/12 . In the following years he worked as an administrator in several fruit farms. At an early stage, Baumann promoted non-fermented fruit processing, which was previously unknown in Germany, in courses and lectures. In 1928 he founded the teaching and research institute for non-fermented fruit processing in Ober-Erlenbach , which received state recognition in 1934.

With the development of processes and equipment for preserving fruit juices without chemical preservatives , Baumann is considered the father of the European fruit juice industry. From 1933 to 1953 he was editor of the magazine Liquid Fruit . In early 1952 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit.
