Josef Beaujean

Josef Beaujean (born May 7, 1903 in Aachen ; † June 3, 1945 ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Josef Beaujean was born in Aachen on May 7, 1903. He studied at the University of Bonn and received his doctorate in 1929 with the dissertation “Christian Gottfried Krause. His life and personality in relation to the musical problems of the 18th century as an esthete and musician ”. He wrote for the Nazi magazine Musik im Kriege . Beaujean married the Belgian Martha Margarete Maria Jobs.

Josef Beaujean specialized in the composer, music writer and lawyer Christian Gottfried Krause . He examined and described the environment of the first Berlin song school , which in origin and form went back to Krause and his collection of "Odes with Melodies" compiled together with Karl Wilhelm Ramler and Friedrich Wilhelm Marpurg in the spirit of the Berlin Enlightenment , whereby Beaujean did not explain it lags behind the 1973 study by John Richard Edwards, "Christian Gottfried Krause: mentor of the first Berlin song school".

According to Beaujean's studies, Krause's friendship with Ramler evidently resulted in a lost cantata for Johann Wilhelm Ludwig Gleim .

Josef Beaujean was the father of the librarian Marion Beaujean . He died on June 3, 1945.
