career

Saarbrücken and Stuttgart, 1960 to 1964

The 20-year-old offensive talent Josef "Jupp" Christ had attracted so much attention to himself in the 1959/60 round in the 2nd Amateur League Saar, Group West, at Sportfreunde Hüttersdorf with his assault performances that he from the Southwest Oberligisten Sportfreunde in 1960/61 Saarbrücken was committed. Wilhelm Cadario from SV Püttlingen and Hans-Dieter Spengler from SV Merchweiler came to Burbach, in the west of Saarbrücken, as further newcomers . Together with Hans-Jürgen Massion , they immediately revived the offensive department of the "Hiddeklowe" and shot the sports fans to sixth place with 67 goals. Christ, he mostly played on the half-left or on the left wing, even won the top scorer's crown in the south-west upper house with 25 goals in his debut round in the major league. Klaus Matischak , Heinz Vollmar and Helmut Kapitulski ranked among the places with 19 goals each. Coach Alfred Pelke used the man from Hüttersdorf in all 30 league games. "Jupp" Christ contributed three goals to the 6-0 success on November 16, 1960 against local rivals and eventual champions 1. FC Saarbrücken. He also distinguished himself as a three-time goalscorer in the two matches against SV Niederlahnstein and in the 7-0 home win against Wormatia Worms. The round also included the 2:10 defeat on April 9, 1961 at FK Pirmasens . The VfB Stuttgart obliged the Southwest scorer for Round 1961/62 and Christ after a year Saarbruecken in the Swabian metropolis.

Under coach Kurt Baluses , the newcomer from Saarland played three games in the first four game days of the 1961/62 round in the Oberliga Süd in the encounters against Bayern Hof, FSV Frankfurt and BC Augsburg, after which he was no longer considered in the Swabian league team. Manfred Reiner , who came from Karlsruher SC, successfully occupied the left wing position at VfB in 29 games with 14 goals. After a frustrating round, Christ returned to the family environment at Sportfreunde in Saarbrücken in 1962 and played the football league again in the southwest in the last year.

In addition to the returnees Christ, the newcomer from the Westerwald, Johannes Löhr , von Eitorf 09 and the former Italian professional, Horst Buhtz as the new coach, also gave the Sportfreunde additional personal details. After the 2-1 home win on October 28, 1962 against 1. FC Kaiserslautern , the Burbach team took second place in the table with 16: 4 points. At the end of the round, the Sportfreunde were in 6th place in the southwest. "Hennes" Löhr (18), Christ (12) and Massion (10) stood out as the most accurate goal scorers. "Jupp" Christ contributed four goals to the 7-1 home win on April 7, 1963 against TuS Neuendorf. In the first year of the Southwest Regional Football League, 1963/64 , Christ played 35 games and scored 18 goals. The best scorer of the "Hiddeklower" was however "Hennes" Löhr with 30 goals. Christ scored three times in the opposing net in the 7: 1 and 10: 3 home wins against VfR Frankenthal and TSC Zweibrücken. On the last match day, May 10, 1964, he said goodbye to the sports fans in a 3-2 win against TuRa Ludwigshafen with a goal and moved to league rivals SV Röchling Völklingen for the 1964/65 round .

Völklingen, 1964 to 1969

Under coach Herbert Binkert and at the side of the ex-national player Horst Eckel , "Jupp" Christ opened his player activity in Völklingen in the summer of 1964. He played his last regional league game on April 20, 1969 under the current coach Eckel in the home game against SV Südwest Ludwigshafen. From 1964 to 1969, "Jupp" Christ played 112 league games for Völklingen and distinguished himself as a goal scorer 45 times. After the round of 1968/69 he ended his higher-class playing career.
