Josef Dudel
Josef Dudel (* 1930 in Küstrin ) is a German neurophysiologist with a focus on synaptic excitation transmission .
Dudel studied medicine and did his doctorate at the University of Heidelberg . He completed his habilitation in 1962. In 1971 he became professor of physiology and director of the Physiological Institute at the Technical University of Munich . From 1991 to 1997 he was dean of the medical faculty . In the mid-1990s, Josef Dudel and Franz Hoffmann founded the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) “Mechanisms of Rapid Cell Activation”, which was the first SFB at this faculty. In 1998 Dudel retired.
Dudel was a member of the Senate of the German Research Foundation and on the Board of Governors of the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development. Since 1975 he has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences .
