Neuroscientific Society

The German Neuroscientific Society e. V. (NWG) is a specialist society in the field of neurosciences . It represents the interests of basic researchers who deal with the development, functioning, performance and disorders of the brain and nervous system.

It was April 24, 1992 in Frankfurt founded in 1993 as a non-profit association with the district court Charlottenburg entered. Since then she has been allowed to use the addition eV.

activities

The Neuroscientific Society has set itself the goal of promoting the neurosciences in research and teaching and to represent it in all its sub-areas at home and abroad.

She is a project partner at dasGehirn.info , offers method courses and workshops for students, doctoral candidates and young scientists as well as free nationwide advanced training events for high school teachers and students.

The Neuroscientific Society publishes the journal Neuroforum and reports on developments at all levels of the neurosciences.

In the uneven years, the Göttingen Conference of the Neuroscientific Society takes place   in Göttingen in the tradition of the Göttingen Neurobiologentagung. It has over 1,800 participants, making it one of the largest national neuroscientific conferences on European soil.

Every year it awards a special prize of 1,000 euros at the federal competition for Jugend forscht as well as the Schilling Research Prize endowed with 20,000 euros and the FEI Technology Prize with 2,500 euros every two years.

In 2018, the NWG awarded the Otto Loewi Medal for the first time . The first prize winner was Helmut Kettenmann, who was honored for his outstanding work and commitment.

The Neuroscientific Society works together with partner organizations at home and abroad to implement its statutory goals.

The NWG

  • represents the German neuroscientists in the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO)
  • is a founding member of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS)
  • is entitled to propose for the expert reviewer elections of the German Research Foundation (DFG)
  • cooperates with the Leopoldina
