As a soldier in the First World War, he fell seriously ill in 1916 and came to convalescence at Lake Balaton , which was his home for the rest of his life. On the south-western bank, first in the small town of Keszthely , then in 1928 in the shadow of a former volcanic mountain, the painter settled in the small wine village of Badacsony . There he became the painter of the lake with his expressionistic painting style .
