Josef Federer

Josef Federer (born April 19, 1921 in Fronberg (Schwandorf) , † September 6, 2014 ) was a German politician . From 1966 to 1990 he was mayor of Mühldorf am Inn .

Life

The son of a train driver grew up in Fronberg, Ingolstadt and Mühldorf. Federer was drafted as a soldier in November 1939 while training at the Landkrankenkasse. He served as a first lieutenant in France and Russia during World War II . On March 19, 1945 he was taken prisoner by the United States . At the beginning of May 1946 he was released and returned to Mühldorf. Until 1966 he worked for the local health insurance fund . From 1966 to 1990 he was mayor of the city of Mühldorf. In the 1966 election he was a blatant outsider as an SPD candidate for mayor's office. When he took office, he replaced Hans Gollwitzer , after whom a street was named during Federer's tenure. In addition, during Federer's tenure, Gollwitzer was again awarded the honorary citizenship of Mühldorf. In 1972 he prevented Adolf Martin Bormann from being employed as a teacher at the trade association vocational school in Mühldorf. His successor was Günther Knoblauch .

Josef Federer was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Mühldorf by resolution of May 3, 1990.
