Josef Fröstl
Josef Fröstl (born January 26, 1839 in Afing ; † March 8, 1900 in St. Pölten ) was a lawyer , Austrian politician ( liberal ) and 12th mayor of St. Pölten.
Life
Josef Fröstl was born on January 26th, 1839 in Afing near Neidling as the son of farmers. Originally he wanted to comply with the will of his parents and become a priest. After several years in boarding school , however, he moved to the University of Vienna and studied Jus , after which he located in St. Poelten as a lawyer settled.
Fröstl had only been a member of the municipal council since 1885 , when he was surprisingly elected mayor in 1888. The reason for his choice was, besides his popularity among the population, his promise to reorganize the local government. In 1890 he was appointed to the Lower Austrian state parliament . During his tenure, the two St. Pölten barracks were built, the grounds for the planned construction of the St. Pölten hospital were acquired, and the reforestation of the Kaiserwald began . Due to illness, he resigned his mayor's office in 1892, and the year after that he resigned from the state parliament. In 1894 he also left the local council. He died on March 8, 1900 in St. Pölten.
