Josef Fritz Kastner

Josef Fritz Kastner (born February 24, 1888 in Vienna ; † March 6, 1968 there ) was an Austrian teacher and prehistoric .

Life

Kastner first worked as a secondary school teacher. From 1923 he studied prehistory and early history with Oswald Menghin at the University of Vienna . In 1924 he was appointed correspondent for the Federal Monuments Office in Vienna. In 1930 he was at the University of Vienna with a thesis on the prehistory of the XIII. Doctorate in the district of Vienna.

Kastner worked as an archaeologist in Vienna and the surrounding area. Above all, the area around Aspern near Vienna was his real research area. He discovered numerous prehistoric sites and saved important materials from destruction. About 30 publications are available about his findings and findings. The scientific importance of Kastner lies above all in the fact that he was able to prepare the prehistoric foundations for large parts of Vienna's soil and disseminate his results beyond the subject in countless lectures and through popular publications.

In 1975 the Fritz-Kastner-Weg in Vienna- Hietzing was named after him.
