Josef Georg Ziegler
Josef Georg Ziegler (born April 26, 1918 in Ober- Ammerthal ; † October 29, 2006 ) was a German moral theologian.
Ziegler was born in 1918 as the son of a primary school teacher in Ober- Ammerthal near Amberg. After his release from captivity in September 1945, he studied Catholic theology in Regensburg . He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1949 by Michael Buchberger . This was followed by Kaplan years in Nittenau and Cham . In 1955, Ziegler was awarded the title of Dr. theol. PhD. 1959 followed his habilitation with Alfons Auer on antiquity and Christian virginity . From 1961 to 1983 Ziegler was professor for moral theology at the University of Mainz , where he was also made an honorary senator. In 1983 he was the first German theologian to receive an honorary doctorate from a Polish university after the Second World War. On November 3, 2006 he was buried in Ober-Ammerthal.
