Josef Gregorig (born April 27, 1846 in Bisamberg , Lower Austria ; † July 2, 1909 in Maria Enzersdorf ) was a Christian-Social Viennese politician and as such a member of the municipal council (1889-1908) and the Imperial Council (1897-1907).

Gregorig was a " Pfaidler " (shirt manufacturer) and business owner in Vienna ( Mariahilfer Straße 24). He was a supporter of Karl Lueger and the anti-Semite Ernst Schneider . The protection of small businesses against large-scale competition from industry and department stores was a particular concern of his; He also represented this intention with massive expressions of anti-Semitism , for example in the conflict over the expansion plans for the Rothberger department store . After the rift with the Christian Socialists, he founded the "Bund der Antisemiten", of which he was chairman until 1904.

In the Reichsrat meeting on November 16, 1899, he propagated the legend of the ritual murder .

Over the years, Gregorig's libel lawsuit against a Jewish prostitute called Aschanti , who had identified Gregorig as the man she had at a masked ball in the Hotel Wimberger ( Neubaugürtel 34, Vienna- Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus or, in 1896 ) , attracted particular public attention . from July 1, 1905, Vienna- Neubau ) in a chambre séparée and who at this meeting immorally sprayed her with soda water from a siphon bottle . The process, which was used on the part of the plaintiff and his sympathizers for anti-Semitic arguments, ended in early February 1899 with an acquittal for the defendant.
