Josef Klamminger (born January 18, 1955 in Graz ) was the first state police director of Styria from 2012-2017 and thus the highest-ranking officer in the security administration in this state.

After graduating with the Magister iuris , he switched to the security administration on June 1, 1990 and started his service as a commissioner at the BPD Graz.

On November 1, 2000, Klamminger was appointed security director for the federal state of Styria.

After the reform of the security authorities in 2012, Klamminger was able to prevail in the tender for the newly created state police director and was appointed to this position on September 1, 2012.

In March 2017 it was reported that Klamminger decided "personally" to retire on November 30, 2017, at the age of almost 63. In June 2017 it was announced that Gerald Ortner would succeed him as State Police Director.

Reflections 2012

At 57, immediately before his appointment as state police director, Klamminger was presented in the Kleine Zeitung on August 29, 2012 as "Styrian of the day" and quoted as follows:

"It was a coincidence that I became a police officer ... (because) I was also fascinated by the armed forces. But I have never regretted the decision to join the police."

"The fulfilling thing about the job is that the range of activities is broad. If you can help, that's really nice."
