Gerald Ortner

Gerald Ortner (* 1974 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian police officer and administrative lawyer as well as State Police Director of Styria .

Career

After graduating from the Academic Gymnasium in Innsbruck in 1992 , Ortner performed his military service in Vorarlberg . He began his service in the security executive in 1993 with basic training as a gendarmerie officer at the Absam-Wiesenhof training center. He then served at the gendarmerie post in Kematen in Tyrol from 1995 to 2002. During this time, Ortner completed his training as a service officer at the central gendarmerie school in Mödling from 1999 to 2002 . From 2002 Ortner moved to the Tyrol Security Directorate as a detective and worked there until 2007. In the same period he studied Jus and spondierte 2007 Mag. Iur . Subsequently, Ortner was a legal advisor for administrative police agendas, in particular for foreign and border control matters in the security department. From 2011 he moved to the Federal Criminal Police Office in Vienna , in order to take up his position as legal advisor in the Federal Ministry of the Interior that same year until 2013 . From 2013, Ortner studied "Strategic Security Management" at the Wiener Neustadt University of Applied Sciences and graduated in 2015 with a " Master of Arts in Security Management" degree . Meanwhile, at the beginning of 2014, he took on the position of Regional Director of Styria at the Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum . On July 2, 2017, Ortner took over the post of State Police Director from his predecessor Josef Klamminger , after he had prevailed against seven other applicants in the application process. This makes him the youngest of the current state police directors.

Private

Ortner is married, father of two and lives in western Styria .
