Franz Popp (policeman)

Franz Popp (born November 24, 1963 ) is major general in the police . He has been the State Police Director of Lower Austria since 2020 .

Professional background

Franz Popp joined the Federal Gendarmerie on December 1, 1982 and, after completing his basic training, served at the Großmugl gendarmerie post .

From January 7, 1987 to December 31, 1988 he completed the officers' course (E1 basic training) and on January 1, 1989 he was transferred to the Lower Austria State Gendarmeriekommando , where he worked as a department head. On November 1, 1991, he became head of the Korneuburg Gendarmerie Department Command and on March 1, 1993, he returned to the Lower Austria State Gendarmerie Command as head of department. Here he became head of the organization and operations department on January 1, 1995, and from July 1, 2002 strategic head and deputy of the state gendarmerie commander.

After the merger of the gendarmerie with the police, he became the deputy of the regional police commander of Lower Austria. As a result, he made a FH training for police leadership , which he completed on September 2, 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts . On February 1, 2012, he was entrusted with the management of the state police command of Lower Austria.

On September 1, 2012, he became Deputy State Police Director (in Division A) in Lower Austria due to the restructuring of the 2012 security authorities . He is therefore the highest police officer in Lower Austria after the regional police director Franz Prucher .

On July 1, 2020, he became Regional Police Director of Lower Austria, and from 2019 he was interim head of the authorities. Konrad Kogler was previously the state police director.

Private

Popp is married, has three children and lives in Stockerau.
