Josef Ludl (born June 3, 1916 in Dallowitz near Jungbunzlau , Austria-Hungary , † August 1, 1998 in Prague ) was a Czech football player .
Player career
Josef Ludl played for Aston Villa Mladá Boleslav in his youth and moved to Viktoria Žižkov in Prague when he was 18 . In 1936, the striker, who could also be used in attacking midfield, succeeded with his team in promotion to the 1st Czechoslovak League. On April 18, 1937 Ludl made his debut in the Czechoslovak national team , whose member he was also at the 1938 World Cup in France.
In 1939 Ludl, whose strengths included technique and fighting spirit, moved to the reigning champion Sparta Prague , where he quickly took on a leading role. In the press he was compared to the top Brazilian player at the time, Leônidas da Silva . As an all-rounder and playmaker, Ludl Sparta led Prague to win the title in 1944, 1946 and 1948.
The war years prevented Ludl from continuing an international career. For Czechoslovakia and Bohemia and Moravia , Ludl made only 16 international matches, scoring six goals. Already a little behind the zenith of his career, he was appointed to the European selection in 1947, which first beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Rotterdam and then lost to a selection from Great Britain with 1: 6 in Glasgow .
After a serious injury, Josef Ludl ended his active career in 1951 at the age of 34.

Coaching career
After his time as a player, Ludl coached three teams in the first division for one season each, but without any notable success. In 1956 he trained Spartak Hradec Králové , 1957/58 SONP Kladno and after a break of several years in 1960/61 Jednota Trenčín . Ludl later worked as a fire protection fitter.
